AARP Tax Help is currently offering free face-to-face tax preparation services on Wednesdays and Fridays at the Powhatan County Public Library in the large conference room by appointment only.
To better manage our appointments, they will only be offering a few appointment days at a time. Additional appointment times will be added as earlier times are filled. Please continue to check back if you are looking for a later appointment.
Please make an appointment only once you have received all your tax documents. When you come to your appointment, please bring the following items:
- Prior year’s tax return
- Social security cards for everyone on the tax return and drivers license photo ID to confirm your identity.
- Note: If you are new or weren’t here last year you must bring social security cards for everyone on your return. AARP Tax Help cannot prepare your return without social security cards or a social security statement.
- All of your tax documents
- A copy of a voided check for direct deposit of any tax refund

Free tax return preparation appointments will be held between 9:15 am and 2 pm every Wednesday and Friday beginning Wednesday, February 4 through Friday, April 10, 2026 in the library’s large conference room.
