The Story Teller Trail recently won the Outstanding Innovative Outreach Award from the Virginia Public Library Directors Association. The award is given annually for library programs initiated in the previous year in the state of Virginia.
The Story Teller Trail, found on the Library Trail, is available to visit whenever Fighting Creek Park trails are open. The Story Teller Trail is made up of series of display stations containing words, objects and pictures. Each station invites the visitor to create their own story, and build on that story as they visit the next station. Themes will change regularly, keeping the adventure new. Children can visit the Library after they’ve made their new story, tell us their story, and receive a reward! The Story Teller Trail officially opened July 30, 2024. The Southside Electric Cooperative (SEC) donated funding to help build the Trail. The Trail stations were constructed as an Eagle Scout project by Brandon Barr.
